Hyzaar (generic name: losartan + hydrochlorothiazide) is an oral medication that can be prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to reduce the risk of stroke and heart attacks in people with hypertension. The brand Hyzaar is sold under the brand name Oscaar Plus outside of the U.S. It is manufactured in the Netherlands by the license owner MSD.
Losartan is a member of a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists (ARB). It keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and improves blood flow.
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic (water pill) that helps prevent the body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention.
