Dexilant (generic name: dexlansoprazole) is a member of the proton pump inhibitors (PPI) family. It is also marketed with the brand name Kapidex.
Dexlansoprazole inhibits the secretion of acid in the digestive system. It is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which the backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and could go on to injure the esophagus. The main symptoms are heartburn and inflammation of the esophagus.
Dexilant is suitable for the treatment of children 12 years and older.
The drug is meant to begin relieving the symptoms soon after the start of its use and works as long as it is taken according to the instructions. The duration of its use is usually up to four months in adolescents and up to six months in adults. In some cases, a doctor may recommend a longer duration of intake. Dosage Dexilant is a delayed-release formula that releases the medication about one hour after taking it and continues to be released for another four to five hours. The capsule must be taken by mouth, with or without food. It is usually taken once a day unless the prescribing doctor decides otherwise.
Please read the manufacturer’s Product Insert that comes with the medication.
