Mucolit is used to loosen mucus for patients with persistent coughs in lung conditions such as COPD, bronchitis, and cystic fibrosis.
Mucolit® (generic name: carbocisteine) is a mucolytic, which breaks down mucus produced in the lungs so it becomes easier to cough it up. It is available in three forms: Mucolit Syrup (250mg per 5ml) Mical Tablets (375mg) Mucolit Capsules (375mg) Carbosisteine cannot be used in children two years of age or younger. For children over that age, capsules and tablets are not recommended, and Mucolit syrup is the best choice.
Mucolit is available over the counter without prescription.

Side Effects: Common side effects may be diarrhea, runny nose, and headache, nausea, gingivitis. If any of the side effects worsens, or if you suffer from side effects not mentioned here, consult a doctor. Rare serious side effects have been reported, and require contacting a physician or emergency health care center at once: Stomach ulcers producing symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and weight. Side effects of hypersensitivity such as rash, swelling, redness, itching, blisters on the skin, peeling skin, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty breathing, pressure in the chest or throat, swelling of one or more of the following organs: mouth, face, lips , the tongue, the eyelids. These symptoms may be accompanied by a high fever. Symptoms of Stevens-Johnson syndrome: severe skin rash, irritated skin, peeling skin, blistering of the skin or eyes, ulcers in the mouth, throat or nose. Vomiting blood, blood in the stool or black stool.
Indication: For the treatment of disorders of the respiratory tract characterized by persistent coughing with excessive or viscous mucus.
