Plavix (generic name: clopidogrel) is an anti-coagulant medication that can prevent blood clots from forming. Clopidogrel is a P2Y12 inhibitor, a type of antiplatelet medication that prevents platelets from clumping together and forming clots in the blood vessels leading to the heart or brain. Clopidogrel can only be taken by adults aged 18 and over, but usually not for women who are already pregnant, planning to fall pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Dosage The prescribing doctor sets the dosage and regimen. The standard dose is 75 mg daily, which can be taken with or without food. It is advisable to take the dose at the same time each day, in the evening. If a dose is missed, it can be taken as soon as it is noticed, but only on that day. If it cannot be made up on the same day, take the regular dose at the usual time the next day. Do not double-dose to make up for any missed dose.
