Trimbow (generic name: beclometasone / formoterol / glycopyrronium bromide) is an inhaled medication prescribed to treat patients with moderate or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who are not responding adequately to the standard treatment. COPD is a condition in which there is difficulty in breathing due to the lungs becoming damaged or blocked. The causes include emphysema (damage to the air sacs in the lungs) and chronic bronchitis (long-term inflammation of the airways leading to the lungs). About COPD COPD is characterized by a persistent bronchial obstruction, which leads to a chronic inflammatory response of the airways and air sacs to noxious particles or gas. The main symptoms of COPD are dyspnoea (difficult or labored breathing), chronic cough and production of sputum. In some cases, inflammation of the small airways and the thickening of the walls of the airways and increased airflow resistance may occur, along with progressive destruction of the portion of the lungs involved in gas exchange (emphysema). Both mechanisms may coexist, leading to a significant reduction of airflow. About Trimbow Trimbow is a triple-acting combination of inhaled corticosteroid (ICS), long-acting β2-agonist (LABA) and long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA). It combines beclomethasone dipropionate (BDP), formoterol fumarate (FF) and glycopyrronium bromide (GB) Trimbow is administered  with a portable inhaler device. Each inhalation of the liquid dose provides a fixed measure. The recommended dose is two inhalations twice daily. The drug can only be obtained with a prescription. How does Trimbow work? The three active substances in Trimbow work by reducing inflammation and keeping the airways open by various mechanisms, allowing the patient to breathe more easily. Beclometasone is an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid that works by reducing the activity of the immune system. This leads to a decrease in the release of substances such as histamines that are involved in the inflammation process. Formoterol is a long-acting beta-2 agonist that attaches to beta-2 receptor targets found in the muscles of the airways. This causes the muscles to relax, keeping the airways open. Glycopyrronium bromide is another form of muscarinic receptor antagonist that works by blocking receptors in muscle cells in the lungs that control their contractions. As a result of the inhalation, the muscles of the airways relax In combination, these three substances allow the patient to breathe more easily, prevent exacerbations, relieve symptoms and improve the quality of life.

Indication: According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention , more than sixteen million Americans have been diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). There are also many millions more who have not yet been diagnosed or treated. The common symptoms of COPD include shortness of breath when performing activities climbing stairs, or walking uphill. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is usually associated with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. It can also exacerbate the effects of infections with COVID-19. Current and previous smokers are particularly susceptible, along with people who were exposed to air pollution at home or work. There are also genetic components, so a history of emphysema or bronchitis in relatives could be a red flag. As well respiratory infections such as pneumonia also increase the risk. COPD is diagnosed using a simple breathing test called spirometry.
