Vasodip (generic name: lercanidipine) is prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Vasodip belongs to a class of drugs known as dihydropyridine-type calcium channel blockers. These medications work by blocking the entry of calcium into cells in the heart and blood vessel walls. This leads to a reduced amount of calcium available to muscle cells, which allows relaxation of the blood vessels and so reduces blood pressure.
Dosage and administration
Vasodip comes in two strengths – 10mg and 20mg tablets. Your doctor will prescribe the appropriate strength and schedule. Depending on the individual patient’s response, the doctor may, at some point, increase the dose to 20mg.
It is generally recommended to take Vasodip at least 15 minutes before meals.
